Abdominoplasty Surgery (aka tummy-tuck)

“Have you considered buying new pants? Well, start thinking about it because that’s what usually happens with our patients.”

This surgery grants a thinner abdomen, making patients slimmer. Abdominoplasty surgery reduces the measurements in this region and our patients usually have to renew their wardrobes. Even if you are overweight, schedule an appointment, join our nutritional-guidance program and you will be able to have the surgery in no time.

There are a few different abdominoplasty modalities and all of them aim at achieving a well-defined waist without excess skin, a very natural navel and a scar hidden under the undergarments or bikini.

Important Information – Abdominoplasty Surgery

  1. The correct proportion of a woman’s waist in relation to her hip should be of 70%.
  2. We no longer use traditional abdominoplasty, since it yields poor outcomes.
  3. The navel must look very natural, since it will be the only part of the surgery that will
    be apparent wearing a bikini.
  4. We usually perform liposuction above and on the sides of the breasts and flanks
on the same day to obtain better definition.

Indicated for those that have:

  1. Separation (diastasis) of the abdominal muscles
  2. Fat build up
  3. Excess skin below or above the navel
  4. Loss of the waist curves

How do we do abdominoplasty surgery?

Throughout the years, we have created abdominoplasty modalities, since the most traditional abdominoplasty rendered artificial outcomes and didn’t sculpt the waist. We developed a proprietary technique that offers a much more natural navel appearance and are proud to say that our outcomes are pretty and natural. In other words, your belly button won’t give away the fact that you had a tummy tuck.

We also noticed that some patients in this family have already had kids, which may impact two points: the possible change of the body during pregnancy and the lack of time to go to the gym. These two points have a significant impact and we are sure we can help recover your body contour.

Nowadays, we perform different types of abdominoplasty, according to the patient’s objective.
Check the different options below.

Let’s see which one is best for you?

Don’t forget that it’s always possible to associated Abdominoplasty with some other procedure, such as
liposuction, gluteus grafting or breast plastic surgery.

Body-contour Abdominoplasty

It is the most popular tummy tuck. We begin the surgery using liposuction to remove the fat that built up above and on the sides of the breasts, going down towards the waist to create a 70% proportion between the hip and waist.

After this step, liposuction is performed below the abdominal skin to make your body slimmer. A hip graft can be used if the hip is excessively straight or only slightly curved.

This step takes over an hour, after which we will begin the abdominoplasty surgery being very careful with the correction of the diastasis (muscle separation) and the shape of the navel.

We use your own navel and the secret is in the suture, which must be delicate and hidden. The aim is to grant a natural shape to the navel, since this will be the only point visible out of the bikini.

A curiosity: many patients tell us they haven’t used a bikini for years or that they don’t expose their bodies anymore… we are usually able to recover the patient’s self-esteem and degree of confidence to the point that they start showing their bodies and going to the beach again after the procedure.

HD Abdominoplasty (High Definition)

We perform all the steps described above, as well as the marking of vertical lines that show the muscle groups making it look like the person worked out a lot.

It’s an optional modality, more directed to fitness patients. We always warn our patients that the muscles have to be strong to be apparent. In other words, much before the procedure the patient must follow all instructions regarding physical exercises and muscle tone.

Additionally, the follow up with a Nutritionist is essential to increase muscle mass, fight skin flaccidity (replacing collagen and other elements), and reduce the inflammation of the organism before the surgery to favor good healing.

Abdominoplasty using the patient’s own fat

This is an evolution of the previous surgery!

All steps described above are performed, plus the fat graft inside certain muscles, such as the abdominal rectus and external oblique muscles.

This abdominoplasty surgery modality is the most indicated for those that want to show a thick musculature and is not recommended for all patients.

Another option is to use the fat obtained to improve the face, expression lines and eliminate the nasolateral grooves.

The preparation and use of this fat add time to the surgery, but are worthwhile since some muscles may be reinforced and another region of the body may be improved on the same day.

Follow up with our Nutritionist

We always warn our patients that the muscles have to be strong to be apparent. In other words, much before the procedure the patient must follow all instructions regarding physical exercises and muscle tone.

The following points are emphasized in the Nutritionist program:

  1. Loss of fat mass
  2. Protein and mass gain
  3. Fight skin flaccidity (replacing collagen and other elements)
  4. Inflammation reduction prior to the surgery
  5. Favor good healing

At our clinic we have an excellent nutritionist and a bioimpedance scale. Our protocol is that all our first-time patients undergo bioimpedance first to know what their body composition is.

Hospital discharge the next day:

We always send a nurse and a physiotherapist to the hospital to tend to you already on the day following the procedure, before being discharged. The Physiotherapist focuses on promoting a quick recovery, relieving the symptoms, fighting edema and ecchymosis and enabling good healing. The session with her in the hospital takes up to 90 minutes.

Our nurse is focused on enabling a better recovery. We think about your comfort and will give you important instructions for when you go home, such as walking slouched, not touching the dressings (they don’t have to be changed), using the compression garment and when to go back for an appointment.

Our patients usually don’t experience post-op pain.

Post-op cares:

The patient must avoid physical efforts and maintain a slouched posture for up to 15 days to avoid tension on the scar. The recovery after abdominoplasty surgery takes about 30 days for normal daily activities, and 60 days for physical exercises.

We like to give our patients two booklets: one before and another after the surgery so you know what to expect and what you have to do to reach your (our) objectives.

Abdominoplasty outcomes must not be considered definitive before 6 months after the surgery. Lymphatic drainage, performed by a qualified and experienced professional, is essential for the disappearance of the edema and to avoid the formation of fibrosis.

How to Have a Procedure Done In Brazil?

Brazilian Plastic Surgery is very well-known around the globe. This started to happen with Dr. Ivo Pitanguy’s work, which raised the bar for modern plastic surgery worldwide.

At Dr. Alexandre Charão’s clinic, we have developed several protocols to improve our post-op outcomes and comfort. We were able to summarize years of experience in this site text.

Our patients come from many different countries around the world and all of them have reported the following advantages of undergoing the procedure in Brazil:

  1. high technical capacity
  2. lower cost
  3. friendlier experience in comparison to other countries
  4. complete team to facilitate a quick recovery
  5. safety in all steps

The next step for you to eliminate whatever is bothering you is to schedule an appointment
with Dr. Alexandre Charão.

This can be done in two ways:

After you get in touch, we will send you a link for the payment of the appointment, which
will be scheduled soon after.
